It was French driver Enzo Deligny, representing R-ace GP, who set the fastest time in the second of the three collective pre-event test sessions ahead of the second round of the Formula Regional European Championship by Alpine at Spa-Francorchamps. On the Belgian track, it had already been one of his teammates who topped the timesheets earlier this morning (Jin Nakamura with a 2:11.998). In the second session, lap times dropped further, with Deligny clocking a 2:11.195.
With just over half a second of margin (0.509), second place went to ART Grand Prix’s Evan Giltaire, the current championship leader after Misano. Third fastest was Prema Racing’s British driver Freddie Slater, 0.635 behind. Fourth place went to Akshay Bohra (R-ace GP), 0.722 off the pace. Italian driver Matteo De Palo, racing for Trident, was fifth with a 0.774 gap. Japan’s Jin Nakamura, who had led the morning session, finished sixth at 0.777, the last driver within a second of the leader.
Seventh place went to Australian Jack Beeton (Prema Racing) with a 1.016 deficit. Eighth was Japan’s Kanato Le (ART Grand Prix), 1.062 behind, followed by Trident’s Nandhavud Bhirombhakdi at 1.068. Closing the top 10 was Nikita Bedrin of Saintéloc Racing, 1.149 off Deligny’s time.
One more test session remains before the end of the day, scheduled for 4:05 PM.
