Brando Badoer kicks off the Paul Ricard weekend by setting the fastest time in the first Collective Test

A few days after the Mugello round, the Formula Regional European Championship by Alpine returned to action today on the Paul Ricard circuit, the stage for the sixth doubleheader of the 2024 season.

In France, 33 single-seaters represented by 11 teams have arrived once again, including that of Brando Badoer (Van Amersfoort Racing), who managed to put everyone behind him at the end of the first timed session. The Italian driver continues his steadily improving season, which has seen him achieve five consecutive second-place finishes. This morning, Badoer set the best time of 1’59″183, ahead of championship leader Rafael Camara (Prema Racing), who in turn placed ahead of Michael Belov. It was a good performance by the Trident Motorsport flag bearer, who secured the third step of the podium in Race 1 at Le Castellet in 2022. Another standout was Van Amersfoort Racing’s rookie Ivan Domingues, coming off his first victory in this grouping and a bronze medal in Italy. Positive signs also come from young Red Bull Academy driver Enzo Deligny (R-ace GP), who secured the fifth fastest time ahead of Alessandro Giusti (ART Grand Prix) and Mugello’s last race winner James Wharton (Prema Racing), respectively in sixth and seventh.

Two other rookies also shone in the first timed session, Evan Giltaire (ART Grand Prix), reigning French Formula 4 champion, and Pedro Clerot (Van Amersfoort Racing), who achieved his first podium in the international series at Mugello. The top 10 was completed by Thèophile Naël (Sainteloc Racing).
