Clerot and Taponen lead the way in Mugello’s Formula Regional European Championship by Alpine Pre-Event Tests

The picturesque landscapes of the Mugello Circuit welcomed the protagonists of the Formula Regional European Championship by Alpine, who officially kicked off the fifth race weekend of the season today. A total of 33 cars took to the famous Tuscan ups and downs for the Pre-Event Collective Tests, each lasting two hours, with Pedo Clerot (Van Amersfoort Racing) and Tuukka Taponen (R-ace GP) leading the way.

Both sessions were marked by strong performances and intense competition on track, as evidenced by the time charts, which highlighted the high level of competition in the championship with the top 10 drivers separated by less than a second in both the morning and afternoon. In the first session, Clerot clocked the best time of the day with a 1’43”658, also establishing himself as the fastest rookie. Right behind the Brazilian driver was Nikita Bedrin (MP Motorsport), trailing by just 35 thousandths of a second. Bedrin, who is splitting his season between FRECA and Formula 3, demonstrated his comfort on the Tuscan curves, leading the current series leader Rafael Camara (Prema Racing) in the morning session. The Ferrari Driver Academy ace finished third, ahead of Williams Academy driver Alessandro Giusti (ART Grand Prix), who was only 19 thousandths behind. James Wharton (Prema Racing) also performed well, securing the fifth fastest time ahead of rookies Ivan Domingues (Van Amersfoort Racing) and Valerio Rinicella (MP Motorsport), who finished sixth and seventh respectively. Rounding out the top 10 were MP Motorsport’s Nikhil Bohra, Brando Badoer (Van Amersfoort Racing), and Ugo Ugochukwu (Prema Racing).

In the afternoon, it was Taponen, the star of the previous round in Hungary, who once again took center stage. Under a hot sun that significantly raised temperatures, he outpaced the two Van Amersfoort Racing cars driven by Badoer and Clerot. Wharton continued his strong form, finishing fourth ahead of Evan Giltaire (ART Grand Prix) and Ugo Ugochukwu, who were fifth and sixth as the session ended. Red Bull Academy driver Enzo Deligny (R-ace GP) also impressed, securing the seventh fastest time ahead of Camara, Kanato Le (G4 Racing), and Zachary David (R-ace GP). Special mention goes to Michael Belov, who is racing this weekend for Trident Motorsport in place of the injured Roman Bilinski. Doriane Pin (Iron Dames) also returned to the international series paddock after being forced to miss the last races due to health reasons.

The teams and drivers of the Formula Regional European Championship by Alpine are ready to rev their engines tomorrow morning for the first collective test scheduled at 9:50 AM.
