It’s proving to be a more than positive weekend for Van Amersfoort Racing, as the Dutch team continues to shine at their home circuit in Zandvoort, host of the third round of the 2025 Formula Regional European Championship by Alpine. This morning’s second qualifying session was shaped by unpredictable and rapidly changing weather conditions, with intermittent rain significantly impacting the action. Once again, it was Pedro Clerot (VAR) who rose to the top, claiming his second consecutive pole position.

The Brazilian driver set the best lap of the morning in Group B, which was the first to head out onto a wet track that gradually improved as the minutes passed. Clerot stopped the clock at 1:40.144, finishing 0.612 seconds ahead of Race 1 winner Freddie Slater (Prema Racing), who had led the session for much of its duration before settling for second. Just behind Slater was Jin Nakamura (R-ace GP), who impressed with another strong performance, while Evan Giltaire (ART Grand Prix) took fourth ahead of rookie Dion Gowda (Van Amersfoort Racing) in fifth.

Group A faced slightly drier conditions at the start, prompting some drivers to gamble on slick tyres. However, the weather quickly deteriorated again, with renewed rain reshuffling the order. Several drivers took turns at the top of the timesheets, but as the session reached its conclusion, the battle for the fastest lap came down to Hiyu Yamakoshi (Van Amersfoort Racing) and Enzo Deligny (R-ace GP). The Japanese driver ultimately emerged on top, edging out Deligny by 0.407 seconds.

Joining them in the third row for Race 2 will be another R-ace GP driver, Akshay Bohra, who continues to show strong pace following his podium finish yesterday. Completing the top five of Group A were current championship leader Matteo De Palo (Trident) and Kanato Le (ART Grand Prix).
The international series will return to the track this afternoon at 13:35 for Race 2, which will be broadcast live on the championship’s official YouTube channel and on all partner TV networks, including ACI Sport TV.

Pedro Clerot – Van Amersfoort Racing
“It’s an incredible feeling. After two tough rounds, bouncing back like this at the home race for the team is really special. We managed the mixed conditions well, and I felt confident right from Thursday. I knew the key would be to cool the tyres and go for it on the final lap – and I think we nailed it. Now the focus shifts to the race: we’ll aim for the win.”
Hiyu Yamakoshi – Van Amersfoort Racing
“Very happy with this result and the strong performance by the whole team. Conditions were tricky again, like yesterday – changing between dry and wet – but we made the right call on tyres. I’m especially pleased with my pace in the final laps, and it’s great to start from the front row. We’re making good progress this season, and I feel more confident with every round.”
