(FA Racing Press Release)
Exciting French talent Esteban Masson will team up with FA Racing for his rookie assault at the Formula Regional European Championship by Alpine (FRECA). The freshly crowned French Formula 4 champion will spearhead a three-car outfit fronted by double F1 World Champion Fernando Alonso.
Supported by the FFSA’s Equipe de France junior programme, Masson performed extensive late-season FRECA testing and stunned by setting fastest lap in both sessions of the Paul Ricard test last November. Earlier in the month at Barcelona, he was fourth overall and comfortably fastest of the rookies. The Canadian-born 17-year-old now joins FA Racing on the back of a highly successful French Formula 4 campaign that landed him the championship title with six wins, ten podiums, nine pole positions and five fastest laps.
“It’s absolutely wonderful that I will be making my FRECA debut with FA Racing – I’m truly honoured to defend the colours of Fernando Alonso’s team”, said Masson. “We worked well together in testing, and I’m sure we will be able to make quick progress from that. I’m ready to get going!”
“Signing Esteban for our 2021 FRECA team was a shoo-in”, said FA Racing’s Paul Antony. “This will only be Esteban’s second full season in single-seaters, but his stunning debut season in French F4 marks him out as one of the exciting new talents to have come out of karts in recent years. We will try our best to give him the nourishing environment befitting his prodigious skills and can’t wait to go working with him over the season.”
A meteoric karting career saw Masson rise through the national and international Rotax Max ranks to take the French Junior championship in 2019, having already been fourth in 2018. Late-season French F4 outings in 2019 and 2020 were followed by a full-season attack on the championship in 2021, leading to instant success and the title.
