Gerhards tops collective test 2 in Austria

The day at the Red Bull Ring in Spielberg bei Knittelfeld came to a close with the 28 drivers competing for the seventh round of the 2025 Formula Regional European Championship on track again for the Collective Test 2. The afternoon brought another 50 minutes of running, giving teams a final chance to refine their setups before the action intensifies with qualifying and races.

Just like in the morning, the final session of the day was lively and unpredictable, with multiple lead changes and the fastest lap remaining undecided until the chequered flag. In the end, Dutch driver Tim Gerhards with Sainteloc Racing emerged on top, setting the reference time of Collective Test 2 in 1:27.100.

The gaps were extremely close. Evan Giltaire with ART Grand Prix secured second place, just 0.031 adrift, while Italian driver Giovanni Maschio with RPM followed in third at 0.078. Making his debut in the series, Reno Francot, also racing for RPM, continued to impress by finishing fourth, only 0.128 behind.

Championship leader Freddie Slater with Prema Racing placed fifth at 0.163, ahead of his teammate Alex Powell with Prema Racing, a member of the Mercedes-AMG F1 Team Junior Programme. The American, entering as a wildcard, quickly adapted to the Formula Regional Tatuus car and closed the session 0.250 off the pace.

Seventh place went to Taito Kato with ART Grand Prix, who ended the afternoon at 0.252 from Gerhards. Completing the top ten were Akshay Bohra with R-ace GP, Hiyu Yamakoshi with Van Amersfoort Racing, and Ean Eyckmans with RPM. Remarkably, all three recorded the same gap of 0.273.

Just outside the top ten, in eleventh, was Enzo Deligny with R-ace GP, only a thousandth of a second further back at 0.274. The Frenchman remains the overall fastest driver of the day thanks to his morning benchmark lap of 1:25.837.
