The pre-event collective testing day at Spa-Francorchamps has officially come to an end, serving as the prelude to the second round of the Formula Regional European Championship by Alpine, which will continue tomorrow with more testing to allow teams to finalize their setups before heading into the heart of the weekend with qualifying and races on Saturday and Sunday.
After the R-ace GP drivers Jin Nakamura in the morning and Enzo Deligny in the early afternoon, the best time in the final session was set by Van Amersfoort Racing’s Hiyu Yamakoshi. The Japanese driver completed the fastest lap in 2:11.376. In second place was Italian driver Matteo De Palo of Trident, 0.238 seconds behind. The third-fastest lap of the evening went to Brazilian Pedro Clerot, also with Van Amersfoort Racing, who trailed his teammate by 0.381 seconds. Michael Belov, on track with the CL Motorsport colours, was fourth with a gap of 0.456. Enzo Deligny finished the day fifth, 0.667 behind, but he still holds the fastest lap of the day on the track nicknamed “Ardennes rollercoaster,” thanks to his 2:11.195 lap in the previous session.
In the final pre-event test, sixth place went to Dion Gowda, Van Amersfoort Racing, 0.750 behind his teammate at the top of the standings. He was followed by two Trident drivers, Chinese Ruiqi Liu and Thai Nandhavud Bhirombhakdi, who were 0.754 and 0.848 behind respectively. Ninth place went to Prema Racing’s British driver Freddie Slater, 0.868 from the session leader, while Nikita Bedrin rounded out the top ten with a margin of 0.879.
Weekend Schedule
The action on track will be back tomorrow, Friday, May 16, with the two collective tests for the Formula Regional European Championship by Alpine. The first will begin at 9:49 AM and run for 50 minutes, with the second session scheduled for 2:29 PM, also lasting 50 minutes.
Saturday’s schedule opens with the first qualifying session divided into two groups: Group A at 10:20 AM and Group B at 10:40 AM. Race 1 is set to start in the afternoon, with lights out at 2:20 PM for 30 minutes plus one lap of action.
Sunday, May 18, features the second qualifying session beginning with Group B at 9:30 AM, followed by Group A at 9:50 AM. The weekend concludes with Race 2 at 4:15 PM.
