(FA Racing Press Release)
Young Brazilian charger Gabriel Bortoleto has signed up with FA Racing to join Fernando Alonso’s outfit for this season’s FIA Formula Regional European Championship by Alpine. The 16-year-old is a late addition to the team, just in time for this weekend’s season opener at Imola.
Bortoleto steps up for his Formula Regional European debut after a strong first season in motor racing that netted him fifth in the Italian Formula 4 Championship, in the process accumulating a win, five podiums and two pole positions. He joins Andrea Rosso and Alexandre Bardinon in a three-car assault by Fernando Alonso’s Formula Regional squad.
“I’m truly delighted to able to join FA Racing for my promotion to Formula Regional”, said Bortoleto. “It’s a wonderful opportunity, and especially exciting to be part of a team fronted by none other than Fernando Alonso. I’m joining a very competitive series and will be racing against the most talented young drivers of my generation – exactly the place to be for me to prove my talent.”
“It’s great news that Gabriel has joined us for 2021”, says FA Racing’s Paul Antony. “He was a revelation in karts and proved to be sensationally quick in Italian F4. I’m confident that Gabriel will star alongside Andrea and Alexandre, and will let his natural talent do the talking on the track.”
Bortoleto stepped up to single-seaters on the back of a strong international karting career that in 2018 saw him take third in both the CIK-FIA European and World Championships and second in the WSK Super Master Series, all at OK Junior level. Promoted to OK level in 2019, the Brazilian teenager claimed seventh in the WSK Super Master Series and 13th in the CIK-FIA European Championship.
