Two Collective Tests sessions today for the Formula Regional European Championship by Alpine, certified by FIA, with the morning one on a wet but drying track, and Hadrien David (R-ace GP), second in the general standings of the championship, setting the best lap time with 1’44.608. Behind him, the leader, Grégoire Saucy (ART Grand Prix), stopping the watch at 1’44.764. Third and first of the Rookies is Isack Hadjar (R-ace GP – 1’44.904), while fourth is the new entry and Wild Card driver Sami Meguetounif (R-ace GP – 1’45.121).
But it is the second free practice of the day, started at 14.00 on a dry track, to give better indication of the performance of the entire 36 drivers line-up. This time it is Paul Aron (Prema Powerteam) to set the best lap time of 1’42.778, almost two seconds faster than the morning best. Behind the Estonian, in 1’42.887, is Michael Belov (G4 Racing), honestly always in the first positions no matter the track or the conditions. Third is the Rookie Dino Beganovic (Prema Powerteam), who has in this last part of the season found finally good feelings with the car and good performance. Fourth and second of the Rookies is a very good Pietro Delli Guanti (Monolite Racing – 1’43.341).
Paul Aron: “We have used only one set of new tyres at the end of the session and feelings are good, but let’s wait for tomorrow to better undertand the general perfomances. On this track I think it will be possible to make good overtakes, thanks to the long straights and fast corners, something that in Valencia was really not possible. Only in some corners the understeer can be a problem following another driver, but in some others is is possible to exit the corner very close to the driver ahead.”
Michael Belov: “I am happy for the pace, but there is surely more work to be done. The track was good, but the wind made the driving more difficult and “unpredictable”. Some traffic and drivers not really giving space during the session when they slowed down have been a bit of a problem, anyway I look forward for tomorrow.”
Dino Beganovic: “Really positive about the pace, but I feel there is more potential, and I am keeping it for tomorrow.”
Pietro Delli Guanti: “A very good session. We used two new sets, but had not used any this morning. Performance is very good, but there is also still a lot of work to do for tomorrow. I raced here in F4, but never with this car”.
Tomorrow Qualifying 1 will start at 9.30 and will be shown in live streaming on the official Youtube and Facebook channels of the series, which are also reachable from the official website: formularegionaleubyalpine.com
